In the heart of Padua : Piazza dei Signori

In 1405 the Republic of Venice subjugated Padua and the Carraresi completely. The Serenissima, as was its custom, eliminated all the symbols of the Carravesi and the Royal Palace itself became the seat of the Capitanio, the citys Venetian military regent. In 1427, above the main entrance, a tower was erected which, ten years later, housed the huge clock made by Giovanni delle Caldiere of Vicenza in the style of the fourteenth-century one invented by Giovanni Dondi in 1344, and is thus called the "Clock Tower". Together with the month, the day and the hour, minute and second, the clock also shows the position of the sun in the Zodiac, and the lunar phases. In 1532 Giovanni Maria Falconetto added the grand classical style triumphal arch.
