| In the art od Padua - Porta Altinate
During the Middle Ages the Altinate Gate was of special importance as it linked Padua to the Lagoon and to Altino; today hemmed in by modern buildings it has vanished, swallowed up by traffic, while the three-arched Roman bridge which once spanned the river is now also interred, and the river has become today "Riviera of the Roman Bridges". It was through the Altinate Gate that the Crusaders entered in 1256 who chased Ezzelino da Romano from the city. It was rebuilt in 1286.
